2022 Howard Potratz Leadership Award: Joe Yancey

PreventEd is honored to present the 2022 Howard Potratz Leadership Award to Joe Yancey for upholding and representing the mission and values of PreventEd.

Joe Yancey has worked in the field of behavioral health for over 42 years having recently retired as the CEO of Places for People. Throughout his tenure, Joe served in numerous positions with the Missouri Department of Mental Health as Assistant Regional Manager for the Eastern District, Deputy Director for the Division of CPS and Lead Adult Policy Director for the Mental Health Transformation Project.

Previously, Joe was the inaugural Chair of the Behavioral Health Network of Greater St. Louis, Chair of the Missouri Association for Social Welfare (now Empower Missouri), and a member of the St. Louis Psychiatric Stabilization Center Board, St. Louis Initiative to Reduce Violence Board, St. Louis Crime Commission, and Bridges to Care and Recovery Steering Committee.

Currently, Joe acts as a Commissioner on the St. Louis Regional Health Commission and Chair of the RHC Community Advisory Board. Additionally, he serves on the board of SSM Health System St. Louis, Gateway Housing First. Joe is a consultant with EMD and is leading a DMH initiative to reduce the escalating overdose fatalities in the Black community.

He has spent his entire career advocating for social justice and racial equity.
