Coalition on Addictions: A PreventEd Speaker Series

Time

12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Coalition on Addictions is a monthly event that provides a forum for networking, learning, and advocacy regarding the use and misuse of alcohol and other drugs. Participation is open to anyone interested in deepening their understanding of the challenges and opportunities in addressing substance use.

This month’s Coalition on Addictions topic is “Tobacco Control in San Mateo County,” by Mayra Diaz Ramirez with the San Mateo County Health Tobacco Prevention Program.

This presentation will give an overview of the current status of tobacco control in San Mateo County (SMC), and the presenter will discuss the history of smoke-free multi-unit housing (MUH) in SMC. In addition to explaining the MUH policy, several cities have adopted a variety of tobacco control policies such as tobacco-free pharmacies, policies to prohibit sales of flavored tobacco and e-cigarettes, and policies that require tobacco retailers to apply for a tobacco retail license (TRL) in order to sell tobacco products. The presenter will also describe how the SMC Tobacco Education Coalition is dedicated to addressing tobacco retail-related issues through advocacy and education.

One CEU contact hour certificate is available for $5.00. Individuals holding a CHES/MCHES certification can earn one CECH for $5.00.

This month’s COA will be a webinar hosted on Zoom. Attendees are welcome to join this virtual meeting at 11:45am for networking. The presentation will begin at 12pm. Click here to register.
